Energy Efficient Homes

Energy Efficiency should be a consideration for all residential building projects.

Energy Efficiency measures are slowing working their way through most municipalities in B.C. Step Code adoption is optional for implementation by B.C. municipalities. Though optional, many builders are working in parts of the Step Code into their building designs.

At Gold Lion, we simply present energy efficient options to our clients. Each option comes at a cost. Our core responsibility to our clients is to present clear and transparent options to achieve higher energy efficiency.

Pillars of Energy Efficiency

  • Some heating systems having lower initial costs and can be costlier to operate (electric baseboards).

Radiant in floor heating systems are considered the ideal heating system from a comfort perspective (but is costlier than furnaces and electric baseboards).

To be truly energy efficient, and incorporate air conditioning/cooling, one must consider the use of heat pumps and heat recovery ventilation.

  • Thicker exterior walls allow for more insulation to be installed. The containment of heat is a regular theme of energy efficiency.

  • Can be tested for during the construction phase. Air sealing requires a plan and implementation by all trades. Where air sealing is critical is at electrical lighting and outlet locations. Air sealing must be implemented early in the framing stage of the build.

  • Spray foam, batt, blown-in, and rigid insulation. Where to use them and to what extent?

  • All windows are very distinct from each other in regard to their quality and performance. We provide you the basic education about window performance revolving around U-value and SHGC ratings. We present you options to upgrade your window quality if you choose to.
